The organization has identified five key trends that will shape the robotics industry in 2026, driven by technological innovations and market demands.

1. AI Enhances Robot Autonomy

Artificial intelligence is making robots more independent and capable of working autonomously. This trend is powered by different types of AI:

  • Analytical AI processes large datasets to detect patterns and provide insights for tasks like failure prediction and resource allocation
  • Generative AI enables robots to learn new tasks independently and create training data through simulation
  • Agentic AI combines analytical and generative approaches to help robots work independently in complex environments

2. IT/OT Convergence Creates More Versatile Robots

The merging of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) is driving demand for more versatile robots. This integration enhances robot capabilities through real-time data exchange, automation, and advanced analytics—foundational elements of Industry 4.0 that create a seamless flow between digital and physical worlds.

3. Humanoid Robots Moving Beyond Prototypes

Humanoid robotics is expanding rapidly, with applications extending from automotive to warehousing and manufacturing. The industry is now focused on proving reliability and efficiency as these robots move from prototypes to real-world deployment. To succeed industrially, humanoids must meet stringent requirements for cycle times, energy consumption, and maintenance costs while achieving human-level dexterity and productivity.
