Wing Aviation LLC and Walmart have announced plans to significantly expand their drone delivery services, aiming to reach 150 more Walmart stores over the next year. This expansion will make drone deliveries accessible to over 40 million Americans.
Key Expansion Details
The partnership between Walmart and Wing will establish a network exceeding 270 drone delivery locations by 2027, covering areas from Los Angeles to Miami. The service will initially launch in major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with additional locations to be announced later.
Greg Cathey, Walmart’s senior vice president of digital fulfillment transformation, emphasized that drone delivery is becoming an essential component of their strategy to deliver products exactly when customers need them, particularly for last-minute essentials.
Current Performance and Customer Adoption
Wing has been operating in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since December 2024 and in Metro Atlanta since December 2025. The company reports strong customer adoption, with its top 25% of customers ordering approximately three times per week. In the second half of 2025, Wing’s deliveries reportedly tripled compared to the first six months of the year.
The average flight time from stores to customer homes is just 3 minutes and 43 seconds, highlighting the efficiency of drone delivery for urgent needs.
Upcoming Service Launches
While Wing previously announced plans to launch in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa, so far only Atlanta has gone live. The company confirmed that Houston service will begin on January 15, with the other cities still in the pipeline.
Operational Capabilities
Wing’s lightweight drone fleet can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes within minutes. The company has completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries worldwide during its five years of U.S. operations. The drones operate within FAA guidelines, flying beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) up to a 6-mile radius from Walmart stores.
Walmart’s Multi-Provider Strategy
Walmart is not exclusively partnering with Wing for drone deliveries. The retail giant is also working with other providers, including Zipline, which launched its P2 drone delivery service at Walmart stores in Mesquite and Waxahachie, Texas last year.
Industry Perspective
Wing CEO Adam Woodworth stated that the company has spent years developing technology to ensure that everyday necessities are just a few taps away, seamlessly integrated into existing store operations. The partnership with Walmart has demonstrated that delivering critical items in minutes makes a significant difference for families, and Wing is proud to extend this capability to more communities nationwide.
