Kodiak AI and Bosch Partner to Scale Autonomous Truck Manufacturing

Kodiak AI Inc. and Robert Bosch GmbH have announced a strategic collaboration to scale the manufacturing of production-grade autonomous driving platforms for trucks. This partnership aims to address critical transportation industry challenges including driver shortages and rising costs.

Partnership Details and Objectives

The collaboration focuses on developing a redundant autonomous platform containing specialized hardware, firmware, and software interfaces that enable Kodiak’s autonomous driving system to automate trucks. Bosch will supply various hardware components, including sensors and vehicle actuation technologies such as steering systems.

“Advancing the deployment of driverless trucks and physical AI not only requires robust autonomous technology, but also manufacturing experience and a robust supply chain in order to achieve true scale,” said Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak.

The Kodiak Driver Technology

At the center of this partnership is the Kodiak Driver, a single-platform automated driving system that combines AI software with modular hardware. The system is designed to be vehicle-agnostic and easily integrated into existing operations, providing a flexible “driver-as-a-service” solution tailored to customer needs.

Kodiak’s technology has already progressed to deploying trucks with no humans on board in commercial operation, demonstrating the maturity of their autonomous driving capabilities.

Business Developments and Future Plans

Founded in 2018, Kodiak is set to become a publicly listed company through an acquisition by Ares Acquisition Corp. II (AACT), an affiliate of Ares Management Corp. and a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC). This transaction is expected to complete in April 2025.

As the largest global automotive supplier according to Automotive News, Bosch brings valuable industrialization expertise for automotive-grade components that will help Kodiak scale its autonomous driving technology.

Paul Thomas, president of Bosch in North America and Bosch Mobility Americas, stated: “By supplying production-grade hardware, we are enabling the next generation of autonomous trucking alongside Kodiak… this cooperation gives us a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of real-world autonomous vehicle requirements.”
