TRON 2: A Versatile Modular AI Robot Platform for Research and Industry

LimX Dynamics has introduced the TRON 2, a highly adaptable embodied AI platform designed to meet diverse research and industrial application needs through its innovative modular design.

Modular Versatility Through Multiple Configurations

The TRON 2’s standout feature is its ability to transform between three distinct configurations to suit different tasks:

  • Dual-arm configuration for precise manipulation tasks
  • Wheeled-leg configuration optimized for mobility and increased payload transport
  • Bipedal (sole feet) configuration designed for specialized terrain navigation, including stair climbing

Impressive Technical Specifications

Each robotic arm features seven degrees of freedom with a spherical wrist design, offering a 70 cm workspace reach and supporting a combined payload capacity of 10 kg. The system maintains a low 50 ms teleoperation latency and includes front-facing cameras for visual perception.

In its wheeled-leg mode, the TRON 2 can support payloads up to 30 kg and includes auto-recharging functionality. LimX reports the system delivers a 100% increase in maximum payload and 80% increase in battery capacity compared to previous iterations.

Comprehensive Safety Features

The platform incorporates robust safety systems, including algorithmic boundaries that prevent self-collision and equipment damage. A dual redundant power system ensures that in case of power loss, the arms automatically fold into a secure position to prevent damage.

Advanced Software Integration

TRON 2 functions as an integrated vision-language-action (VLA) platform with a comprehensive software environment that handles the complete data pipeline. The system includes:

  • Complete data management tools for collection, cleaning, annotation, training, and inference
  • A fully open SDK with both high and low-level interfaces
  • Full Python development workflow support
  • Compatibility with ROS1 and ROS2
  • Sim2Real support with provided URDF files for simulator development
  • Pre-loaded models and tutorials for algorithms like ACT and Pi0.5
  • Over 1,000 real-world datasets

Educational Pricing Options

The TRON 2 is available in educational editions with the following pricing:

  • Dual-arm (EDU Edition): $20,000
  • 3-in-1 (EDU Edition): $25,000

This modular platform represents a significant advancement for research laboratories seeking a versatile test bed that can be easily reconfigured to support various research modalities and industrial applications.
